Will Ransome | P & C Risk Advisor

I was born and raised in Salem, OR and eventually relocated to Kirkland, WA for school where I attended Northwest University. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in May of 2020. I got married to my beautiful wife Tayler 6 days after graduating, and I have never been happier. In my free time I play basketball with the guys, make videos, lift weights, and spend time with my family.

As a 22 year-old recent college graduate, when the opportunity of becoming an insurance broker was offered to me, I didn’t know what to think. As a kid, you dream of playing in the NBA, or becoming a fireman, or something like that, not becoming an insurance broker. Can you imagine that? Your 5th grader comes running up to you “Daddy, Daddy, I want to be an insurance broker when I grow up!” Most likely not going to happen. My answer to the question, “What do you want to do with your life?” has changed so many times throughout my life, but there is one statement I always seem to come back to. “I want to make a difference.” When First Underwriters reached out to me, my eyes were open to a whole new world of “making a difference”. At first glance, insurance sounds boring and repetitive. But what I learned in the first few days as an insurance buyer will stick with me forever.

Think about it this way. You own a restaurant that has been in the family for three generations. Everyone loves your food, the hospitality, and you thrive off of the local community. What happens when the stove is left on overnight and the place burns to the ground, and you weren’t covered for fire? How will you reopen? How will you get back what took three generations to build? The answer is simple. You won’t. It is a sad reality and a true statement. As an insurance buyer, I make sure people have the correct coverage by reviewing their policy, and making any necessary changes in order to ensure that these small to medium size businesses are prepared when disaster strikes. I want to help them not only reopen, but reduce any potential future risks that could close their doors once again. Trust me, I wouldn’t be in the insurance industry if I was selling bogus coverages for a commission check. I know that my mission in life is to help people, and that’s what this industry has equipped me to do.

Fun Fact:

One day I hope to start a Christian non-profit organization that brings the sport of basketball to the cities, villages, and nations all over the world that don’t have access to, what I consider, the greatest game in the world. The dream is to build outdoor courts, supply equipment, run camps, and preach the Gospel.
