The green industry

Insurance built for the way landscapers work

Landscaping contractors run heavy equipment on client properties and manage crews in changing conditions every day. A single accident, property damage claim or equipment theft can set a business back a long way without the right coverage.

We work with landscaping professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest and understand the seasonal nature of the work, the investment in equipment and the liability exposures on each job site.

Common landscaping risks

  • Property damage from equipment or chemicals
  • Employee injuries from machinery or falls
  • Equipment theft from trucks or job sites
  • Third-party injuries on client properties
  • Vehicle accidents while towing trailers
  • Underground utility line strikes
Core coverage

Essential coverage for landscapers

Protection shaped around the risks of landscaping and lawn care businesses.

General liability

Third-party bodily injury and property damage claims, such as a client tripping over equipment or damage to a customer's property during work.

Commercial auto

Trucks, vans and vehicles used in your business, including while towing trailers and moving equipment between job sites.

Inland marine / equipment

Mowers, trimmers, blowers, trailers and other equipment at your shop, on your truck or at a job site, against theft, damage and breakdown.

Workers' compensation

Required coverage for employee injuries. Landscaping has one of the higher injury rates, and this covers medical costs and lost wages.

Professional liability

Also called errors and omissions. Covers claims from design mistakes, improper plant selection or failed installations, which matters most for landscape architects and designers.

Commercial property

Your office, shop, storage buildings and inventory against fire, theft, vandalism and weather, including business personal property.

FAQ

Landscaping insurance questions

How much does landscaping insurance cost?
Costs vary with your services, revenue, number of employees and claims history. A solo lawn care operator might pay $1,500 to $3,000 a year for basic coverage, while a full-service company with tree work could pay $5,000 to $15,000 or more. A quote gives you exact pricing for your situation.
Do I need insurance if I'm just mowing lawns?
Yes. Even basic lawn care creates liability exposure. A rock thrown by a mower can break a window or injure someone, and commercial clients typically require proof of insurance before hiring you.
Is my equipment covered while it's on my truck or trailer?
Standard commercial auto policies typically don't cover equipment. Inland marine or equipment floater coverage protects mowers, trimmers and tools while they're being transported, at job sites or parked overnight, including theft from your trailer.
What if I hit an underground sprinkler line or utility?
Standard general liability policies often exclude damage to underground utilities. If you do any digging, trenching or post-hole work, add underground utilities coverage. It responds if you damage sprinkler systems, gas lines, electrical conduits or other buried infrastructure.
Do I need workers' comp if I only have part-time employees?
In Washington State, workers' compensation is required for all employees regardless of hours worked, including part-time, seasonal and temporary workers. Family members may also need coverage depending on their role. We can help you work through the requirements.
