Why it matters

Exposures generic programs weren't written for

Non-profit and human-services organizations face abuse allegations, board-member liability and injuries to the vulnerable people they serve. We've worked with Pacific Northwest non-profits since 1992, building programs that go beyond general liability to cover governance, abuse, volunteer and service-delivery risks.

For more, see the National Council of Nonprofits and the Nonprofit Risk Management Center.

Why it matters

Real risks that threaten a mission

Illustrative examples of how a single non-profit exposure escalates when coverage is missing or poorly structured, and what closes the gap.

What happened

An abuse allegation against a youth program

A youth-mentoring organization learned that a long-term volunteer had inappropriately contacted several teenage participants. Multiple families sued, alleging the organization failed to properly screen, train and supervise volunteers working with minors. The general liability policy specifically excluded abuse and molestation claims.

What respondsSexual abuse and molestation (SAM) coverage at adequate limits, paired with volunteer-screening protocols and documented training.

  • Defense across four lawsuits (3 years)$720,000
  • Settlements$1,850,000
  • Crisis communications$130,000

Coverage descriptions are general summaries for education. They are not legal, tax or coverage advice, a statement of coverage, an offer or a binder, and the coverage builder is a starting point for discussion rather than a quote or coverage determination. Scenarios and dollar figures are illustrative examples, not representations about any organization. Coverage, limits and eligibility are governed by the terms, conditions and exclusions of the policies issued and are subject to underwriting.
